The Department of African Cultural Studies is dedicated to advancing scholarship and education in African languages and cultural expressions, both on the continent and throughout the global African diaspora. Our expert faculty focus on diverse areas including literary studies, musical traditions, cinematic arts, applied linguistics, theatrical performance, theoretical frameworks, diaspora research, and digital media.
As the sole program of its type in the U.S., we provide unique graduate opportunities with both MA and PhD programs for students pursuing African cultural research. Our international student body represents numerous countries, with strong participation from across the African continent.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
