The Anthropology and Cinema Studies Departments provide a unique combined curriculum resulting in a New York State Certificate in Culture and Media, available to NYU graduate students concurrently enrolled in PhD programs for Anthropology, Cinema Studies, or Comparative Literature. This interdisciplinary program explores diverse connections between culture and media across multiple areas: the role of ethnographic film in anthropology and media studies, challenges in cultural representation through media, media evolution within indigenous, Diaspora, and non-Western populations, new social structures emerging from contemporary media practices, global media's political economy affecting creation and circulation, and how modern media technologies influence these developments.
