A sociology degree equips students with essential research, communication, and analytical abilities applicable across diverse professional paths. The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology provides transferable competencies that support careers in education, legal fields, social services, counseling, healthcare, public sector roles, nonprofit work, and beyond.
Like the B.S. program, B.A. students develop expertise in evaluating data through statistical methods, enabling them to engage in discussions about gender and racial equity, socioeconomic disparities, poverty, and other societal challenges. The B.A. curriculum focuses on social sciences and humanities, teaching students to persuasively counter misconceptions using factual evidence and research findings.
Our professors mentor students through coursework examining patterns, traits, and dynamics of individual-society interactions. Alumni from our B.A. program gain the qualifications for immediate employment or advanced studies at USC and other institutions.
High-achieving majors can earn Sociology Distinction by maintaining exceptional grades and presenting a research thesis. Ambitious undergraduates intending to pursue graduate work at USC may qualify for the Accelerated Bachelors Program, allowing them to accumulate credits toward a master's degree while completing their sociology B.A.
