This certificate program equips students with specialized coursework centered on evaluating and teaching young children who have disabilities. Upon completion, participants will gain expertise in assessing communication, social interaction, and cognitive abilities in young children, along with strategies for offering suitable support to both children and their families. The undergraduate certificate in young children with disabilities studies is available to all Northern Illinois University enrollees. All coursework must be finished at NIU within a three-year period. Prospective certificate seekers must obtain approval and guidance from advisors in the Special and Early Education Department. Note that all classes must be taken at NIU. Those pursuing Early Childhood Special Education certification should consult their advisor for additional details.

High School Diploma: You must have graduated by the time you start at NIU in order to be admitted. Grades: You must have passing grades equivalent to a U.S. C plus average on all transcripts and/or exam scores.The ACT or SAT is required for international freshmen applicants from U.S. high schools.
