Transform students' and families' lives by becoming an educator who champions fairness and creates opportunities. William & Mary's teacher education graduates are highly sought after by school districts throughout Virginia and elsewhere, making an impact daily as educator-leaders.
Undergraduates at William & Mary can combine an Arts & Sciences primary major with a secondary education second major through our dual-degree option. These graduates enter the teaching profession fully prepared for the classroom.
The School of Education integrates hands-on clinical practice as a fundamental part of teacher training. Future educators gain diverse experience in public school partnerships, applying their coursework knowledge to real-world teaching scenarios as they progress from teacher candidates to professional educators.
During autumn, secondary education students complete at least 60 hours of fieldwork, honing instructional techniques, engaging with learners, evaluating their practice, and understanding school environments. This foundation leads to their capstone experience: a 15-week spring semester student teaching placement that's essential for their professional growth as educators.
