Oregon's composition program centers around a vibrant creative collective of 40-45 student composers across undergraduate and graduate levels. Our holistic curriculum blends composition with music theory, historical studies, ethnomusicology, digital arts, modern performance techniques, cross-disciplinary projects, and professional preparation workshops. This carefully balanced program equips every student for success in the composition field.
Numerous participants are skilled musicians and conductors who regularly showcase both their own pieces and peers' works. Performance possibilities flourish through initiatives like the Oregon Composers Forum, Music Today Festival, Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, orchestral composition workshops, Pacific Rim Gamelan, and five student-led contemporary music groups.
