Enhance your analytical skills and cultural awareness. Launched in Spring 2014, the LMAS program addresses the evolving demographic shifts in the nation's population and workforce, with particular focus on the Latina/o community. The Latina/o & Mexican American Studies (LMAS) program aims to foster an engaging, student-focused atmosphere that promotes teaching, research, and advocacy of LMAS scholarship at the University of North Texas. The program's objectives include equipping students with insights into how Latina/o and Mexican-American heritage, both past and present, shapes regional communities and broader society.
LMAS is an interdisciplinary program offering undergraduate students the chance to explore the historical and modern-day experiences of Latinas/os in the U.S. The coursework encourages understanding and valuing of political, historical, linguistic, cultural, literary, sociological, anthropological, economic, and artistic (including art, dance, theater, film, and music) contributions within Latina/o communities. Through its interdisciplinary approach, Latina/o & Mexican-American Studies at UNT enables students to broaden their academic experience across various departments, including Anthropology, Economics, Dance & Theater, English, History, Political Science, and Spanish.
