Latin American countries make up nearly two-thirds of the Western Hemisphere's total population. Currently, Latino and Latin American communities form the biggest minority group in the United States, comprising 16% of the nation's residents. Understanding the cultures, ecosystems, and social structures of Latin America and the Caribbean is vital for U.S. relations within the hemisphere and global awareness. For more than five decades, KU's Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS) has enabled students to explore this region and its diverse populations while fostering language proficiency, research abilities, writing competence, and analytical skills.
