The Latin American studies concentration explores the region's history, traditions, artistic expressions, and literary works, encompassing both Latin America and the Caribbean. Given the geographical closeness and extensive historical ties between this region and the United States, it holds significant relevance for U.S. diplomatic relations and business ventures. The striking contrasts in wealth distribution and natural resources throughout the Americas highlight crucial sustainability challenges.
Available classes change each term, with new subjects and specialized seminars often qualifying for this concentration even if not listed here. Prior to registration each semester, students receive an updated course schedule. Those participating in study abroad programs may petition to include relevant international coursework. Typically, any class examining Latin American developments post-1492 qualifies for concentration credit.
