The UNLV School of Dental Medicine (SDM) focuses on delivering top-tier dental education while addressing Nevada's oral healthcare needs. Through this mission, UNLV SDM aims to enhance statewide health via community dental programs, blended biomedical and clinical training, and research initiatives. Achieving these goals necessitates well-defined, measurable learning standards for students, which guide the development of practical objectives for faculty implementation.
UNLV SDM's four-year academic program spans eleven full semesters with roughly 5,000 instructional hours. Established in 2002, the school crafted a curriculum enabling smooth integration of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences. The program's design intentionally pairs foundational coursework with clinical training, incorporating patient case studies in science classes and behavioral concepts in clinical environments. This approach emphasizes foundational knowledge as essential for developing clinical expertise.
