To earn a Master of Arts in Theatre, students must fulfill the curriculum requirements below while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. While many applicants complete these studies before applying to MU, those with undergraduate degrees in other fields may need to take additional theatre courses. Professional theatre experience can sometimes count toward certain requirements.
Students must complete a minimum of 24 graduate credit hours while enrolled at MU, with the majority earned through the Theatre Department. THEATR 8100 is mandatory, and at least 12 credits must be at the 8000 level or higher. A maximum of 6 credits can come from directed readings or independent study. Students should work with an advisor to finalize their academic plan by the end of their second semester. Only 6 transfer credits from other institutions are permitted. Completion requires submitting Form M-1: Program of Study for the Master's Degree to Graduate Studies, outlining the planned coursework.
