The theatre arts program at UW-La Crosse provides a dynamic and innovative approach to undergraduate theatre education. Our degree options offer diverse opportunities while enabling students to develop specialized study paths tailored to their interests. We emphasize a balanced combination of rigorous academic coursework and hands-on production experience, fostering comprehensive artistic development with a focus on teamwork and creativity. The theatre curriculum features six specialized tracks: general theatre studies, design/technical, performance, musical theatre, stage management, and arts administration, plus a dance minor. UW-La Crosse students can combine a theatre major with a complementary minor, expanding their educational scope and career prospects.
Our program prioritizes direct interaction with faculty, ensuring personalized guidance uncommon in larger programs. Alongside our permanent faculty, we regularly host visiting artists from professional and academic theatre circles. The Department of Theatre and Dance cultivates an encouraging, cooperative environment that sparks artistic growth. Each year, students participate in productions across various roles - from technical crews and designers to performers and front-of-house staff. Theatre production involvement is available to all UW-La Crosse students, regardless of their primary field of study.
