The Master of Fine Arts in Directing program offers intensive professional preparation alongside an avant-garde curriculum. Dedicated to fostering original creations, we view directing as both a creative and cooperative artistic discipline. Candidates collaborate extensively with MFA Playwriting students, crafting and staging a wide range of new theatrical works across academic, developmental, and full-scale production environments.
We aim to cultivate tomorrow's theater pioneers: innovative creators who champion new works and visionaries convinced of theater's transformative potential.

To achieve this goal, we select candidates with proven experience across various theatrical and artistic fields who demonstrate these essential qualities: social awareness, self-discipline, and intellectual curiosity. They question conventions and push creative limits. As narrative artists, they embrace bold experimentation to enhance their work's social, political, and artistic resonance. Above all, they possess vibrant creativity and a deep fascination with human experiences. Our curriculum and productions equip directors to develop their distinctive artistic perspectives while creating theater that expands audience perceptions and worldviews.
