The Department of Horticulture provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The department maintains dynamic teaching and research initiatives covering ornamental horticulture, floriculture, and various fruit, vegetable, and nut crops. Students may specialize in diverse fields such as plant genetics, growth physiology, developmental biology, biotechnological applications, postharvest science, nutritional studies, biochemical processes, sustainable pest management, herbicide strategies, irrigation studies, cultivation techniques, and agricultural product applications. With approximately 40 faculty members across Athens, Tifton, Griffin, and other statewide locations, the department offers extensive resources including three advanced Experiment Stations, the State Botanical Garden, and multiple field research centers representing Georgia's diverse climate zones. Collaborative research opportunities exist with other university departments and three federal research facilities.
