To comprehend life on Earth, one must grasp the significance of the ocean. Over two-thirds of our planet is covered by ocean waters, which host the majority of living organisms and influence Earth's fundamental processes. By pursuing marine science at UD, students explore marine biology, oceanography, geology, and related disciplines alongside policy and environmental management. This comprehensive program equips students with the knowledge and abilities to address critical environmental issues—including climate change, ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries, habitat preservation, and marine pollution. The curriculum culminates with a specialization in either marine biology or oceanography, preparing graduates for professional careers or advanced studies.
Program Educational Objectives Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science with an Oceanography concentration will develop the following competencies: 1) Demonstrate understanding of core principles in geological, chemical, physical, and biological oceanography 2) Assess, interpret, and critically examine scientific data 3) Engage in scientific inquiry and contextualize findings within oceanographic research 4) Analyze human-marine environment interactions and their reciprocal impacts 5) Effectively convey scientific concepts through written and oral communication
