Pursuing a Coastal & Marine Science degree at Sacred Heart means joining a research team and playing a key role in addressing our planet's evolving environmental issues.
Coastal environments serve as transitional zones between ocean and land ecosystems, facing numerous pressures from both human activities and natural forces. The impacts of climate change have introduced new difficulties for these vulnerable marine and coastal areas already strained by urbanization, contamination, and excessive resource extraction.
The Coastal and Marine Science (CMS) program offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate education with comprehensive science coursework. This hands-on program focuses on marine and estuarine studies while encompassing broader ecological and environmental sciences across all habitats. While biology students have varied interests, undergraduates typically concentrate on biological relationships within dynamic ecosystems. The program encourages students to expand their horizons through a semester abroad at SHU's Dingle, Ireland campus.
