The Marine Biology program equips graduates for careers in marine sciences and advanced academic pursuits. Students must receive mandatory advising and have their course plan approved by an advisor before starting their junior year. Aligned with the College of Science and Mathematics' mission, the Biology Department educates students to become scientifically informed citizens, prepares them for graduate studies, cultivates future scientific leaders for industry and education, trains K-12 science educators, and develops candidates for biomedical fields including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and pharmacy.
The Biology Department commits to fostering diversity, inclusion, and equity in science, addressing historical imbalances by amplifying underrepresented voices and encouraging diverse scientific viewpoints. Through education, research, and service to students, the university, and broader community, the department works to implement systemic changes that make science more inclusive, accessible, and supportive for everyone.
