Students will explore marine life and ecosystems, from vast oceans to coastal wetlands, examining how organisms behave and interact with their surroundings. The Marine Sciences program covers oceanography, statistical analysis, fisheries, aquatic sciences, and invertebrate biodiversity. Electives allow students to specialize in areas like ecology, organismal biology, economics, human dimensions, or quantitative and professional skills. The university encourages an interdisciplinary approach to marine science, blending education and research to equip students for diverse academic and professional paths. This major, a collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers customizable coursework aligned with individual interests and career aspirations. The program emphasizes core scientific and quantitative competencies essential for achievement. Foundational lower-division courses establish expertise in fundamental sciences and mathematics, while advanced upper-division classes enable focused study. CALS students complete an upper-division core focused on biological and ecological marine science principles, alongside vital training in applying statistics and economics to marine science and resource management.
