The Neag School of Education provides two pathways to teacher certification: the combined Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. The school has established an innovative teacher preparation framework that combines structured academic inquiry, extensive field experience, liberal arts foundation, and teaching methodology within a collaborative setting. This model fosters partnerships between public schools, professional development institutions, Neag School departments, and University faculty across arts and sciences disciplines.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification endorsement, candidates must successfully finish the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Teacher Education Program. Future educators complete a minimum of two years in general education and subject specialization before entering the Neag School. They then undertake two years of intensive study in their major and professional education as undergraduates, followed by a final year of graduate-level coursework leading to either a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Additionally, candidates must pass Connecticut's Praxis Core exams and subject-specific assessments.
