Pursuing a learning disabilities specialization prepares you to become a skilled and empathetic teacher for students facing intellectual, social, or behavioral difficulties. The curriculum covers contemporary approaches for supporting diverse learners, integrating technology in modern classrooms, and includes hands-on fieldwork in nearby schools.
This undergraduate program also includes faculty endorsement for the Michigan Elementary Standard Certificate with Learning Disabilities specialization.
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has updated teacher certification to include six grade-level categories. To align with these changes, CEHHS now offers elementary programs for Birth-Kindergarten (BK), Pre-K through 3rd grade (Pre-K3), and Grades 3-6. Current elementary certification candidates and those enrolled before Fall 2022 should consult an advisor about continuing their current program or transitioning to the new grade-level options.
