Western Michigan University offers a five-year combined program in special education learning disabilities K-12 and elementary education PK-3, designed to meet the significant national and local demand for qualified special education instructors. This program boasts the highest employment placement rate among WMU's teacher education offerings. Participants can choose to supplement their studies with a minor in core academic subjects.
Successful graduates will qualify for:
Michigan teaching certification in Elementary Education (K-5).
Elementary Education (K-8) for self-contained classrooms.
Special Education endorsements in Learning Disabilities (K-12).
Emotional Impairment (K-12) certification.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
Minimum English proficiency test scores:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 71 iBT
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.0
Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 48
Michigan English Test (MET): 48
