Physics education research encompasses diverse areas of study. More detailed information can be found at PER Central, a dedicated platform serving as both an information hub and online network for those involved in physics education research (PER).

At the University of Cincinnati, the PER initiative represents a collaborative partnership between the Physics Department and the School of Education. The group's activities center on implementing and assessing effective teaching methods and curricula in introductory physics courses, investigating how students develop scientific reasoning skills, evaluating these skills, and providing training for graduate teaching assistants. Core faculty members from the main campus lead the group, joined by Krista Wood (UC Blue Ash) and Darwin Church (UC Clermont) from UC's regional campuses. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the research, numerous faculty members from across UC and external collaborators frequently participate in various projects.

Qualification Requirements

The minimum required GPA for graduate study is 3.0. Applicants should take the General GRE, and are strongly encouraged to take the Physics GRE subject area test for international applicants. Applicants without Physics GRE subject area test scores must provide other evidence of outstanding achievement and promise. There are no minimum required GRE scores for admission. Instead, we consider your scores, overall record, and letters of recommendation to make the admission decision.
transcripts, which preferably arrive by mail,
any GRE and TOEFL scores, which preferably arrive directly from ETS,
three letters of recommendation, which the reviewers put into the university's online system,
a statement of purpose and a curriculum vitae, which the applicant uploads into the university's online system,
an application form, created from the applicant's responses to the sections of the university's online system.
All foreign nationals must submit proof. The preference is to have TOEFL IBT scores sent directly by ETS to the Physics Department. The minimum acceptable score is 68.
