The Ph.D. is awarded to individuals who exhibit significant academic achievement and the capacity for autonomous research in applied physics. By completing advanced studies and intensive training, the program equips students to produce innovative work in applied physics and effectively communicate their findings. Departmental Ph.D. requirements, outlined in the Stanford Bulletin's Courses section, include: Explore Courses lists current Applied Physics (and Physics) offerings. Foundational Physics and Mathematics courses are available for students needing to strengthen their undergraduate background. Students should fulfill all course requirements by their third year at Stanford.
Applicants from colleges and universities of recognized standing who hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent are eligible to be considered for admission for graduate study. English Proficiency: TOEFL - Your minimum score must be 100 (internet based) OR 600 (paper based).
