Quantitative psychology offers students a chance to focus on measurement techniques, research methodologies, and data analysis approaches applicable to social science research. The psychology department features faculty members such as Peter Bentler, Han Du, Craig Enders, Amanda Montoya, and Steven Reise, whose expertise spans structural equation modeling, item response theory, multilevel modeling, and fMRI data analysis.
UCLA's quantitative psychology program is tailored to individual students, fostering close mentorship with faculty. Students typically fall into two groups: those with advanced mathematical skills focused on theoretical challenges in statistics and modeling, and those more interested in applying psychometric methods to real-world research. Some students balance both aspects equally. The program actively encourages collaboration with faculty across psychology disciplines, including couples research, longitudinal studies, health outcomes, and the biological foundations of mental health disorders.
