The UCI Public Health program provides an exceptional research-focused doctoral education, leading to a Ph.D. in Public Health with specializations in global health or disease prevention. Students admitted to this program will collaborate with leading faculty to investigate factors influencing population health outcomes and apply these findings to enhance disease and disability prevention approaches.
The PhD in Public Health program's core objective is to educate students in performing innovative research on population health determinants and applying these insights to develop effective prevention strategies. Upon completing the program, graduates will be equipped for autonomous and team-based research roles, as well as for teaching at higher academic levels.
Master’s level degrees in health-related disciplines are the preferred preparation for admission to the Ph.D. in Public Health. Applicants to the Ph.D. in Public Health who come with undergraduate degrees from other related majors might be required to take supplementary courses in addition to the preparatory module of the Ph.D. program. All applicants must have an overall grade point average of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better and take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test.
