The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program educates students in applying physics and materials science principles to design, analyze, and produce mechanical and thermal systems. Graduates utilize fundamental concepts such as mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics, along with tools like computer-aided design and modeling, to develop machinery, defense systems, medical equipment, and robotic technologies. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is situated at the far eastern edge of Cummings Research Park, one of the nation's largest research parks. With proximity to leading aerospace firms, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Army's Redstone Arsenal, many students receive job offers prior to graduation. This distinctive environment is rare nationally, making MAE graduates at UAH particularly advantaged in their career paths. Consequently, enrollment has surged, doubling over eight years, and MAE has become the most popular major at the university.
