Eligible UMBC undergraduate students may seek entry into an appropriate Master's program as soon as their junior year's first semester. In Mechanical Engineering, the BS/MS pathway is primarily intended for high-achieving UMBC undergraduates already engaged in research with a ME Faculty advisor and committed to pursuing an advanced degree at UMBC. The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department provides an ABET-accredited undergraduate program resulting in a BS degree, along with graduate programs offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering. UMBC's Mechanical Engineering Department aims to be the top choice in the Baltimore-Washington area for students aspiring to become global leaders in the Mechanical Engineering field, serving industry, research labs, and academia. The Mechanical Engineering program includes sixteen faculty members, with thirteen holding tenured or tenure-track positions and three non-tenure track faculty primarily overseeing the undergraduate ME program. The department enrolls over 500 undergraduate majors and more than 90 graduate students in M.S. and Ph.D. programs. A BS/MS program is also offered for exceptional students.
