San Francisco State's Dietetic Internship Program is a key component of the graduate Certificate in Dietetics. This internship equips participants with the essential knowledge and hands-on training required to qualify for the Registered Dietitian (RD) certification exam. Interns will gain supervised practical experience through rotations at various healthcare and community settings across the Bay Area, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, and nutrition programs. Alongside their fieldwork, interns enroll in advanced nutrition courses covering topics like management, lifespan nutrition, research methodologies, and therapeutic nutrition. The intensive 11-month program runs from mid-July to early June.

Admission to this internship requires completion or near-completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), which is commonly an undergraduate dietetics degree, though alternative pathways exist.
