Asia stands as a dominant force in today's global landscape, influencing everything from economic systems and political dynamics to environmental movements, popular trends, philosophical thought, and artistic expression
showcasing rich cultural traditions that have persisted for millennia.
SDSU's campus thrives within a dynamic, multicultural neighborhood, mirroring the diversity of our student population.
The Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS) serves as both an interdisciplinary academic department within the College of Arts and Letters and a crucial component of SDSU's global education program. Our courses leverage expertise from faculty across disciplines to provide engaging classes exploring Asian traditions and modern developments, covering areas like visual arts, media studies, cinema, ecological concerns, historical narratives, written works, philosophical traditions, governance systems, spiritual practices, gender studies, and Asian-American histories. Learners are encouraged to explore fresh viewpoints, belief systems, approaches, and lived realities through focused studies of the Asia-Pacific area, examining topics ranging from the cultural foundations of K-pop and anime to profound wisdom from Eastern religions, unconventional management styles and business ventures, as well as societal structures and interpersonal connections.
