The Department provides a Master of Arts program along with two dual degree options (an Asian American Studies MA/Public Health MPH in collaboration with the Fielding School of Public Health's Department of Community Health Sciences, and an Asian American Studies MA/Social Welfare MSW with the Luskin School of Public Affairs' Department of Social Welfare). Additionally, graduate students from other disciplines can pursue an Asian American Studies Graduate Concentration through the Department.

The graduate curriculum focuses on developing students' abilities in these key areas: (1) providing theoretical frameworks for analytical and critical thought, (2) mentoring research methodologies using diverse mediums including written materials, digital platforms, visual arts, or performance-based approaches, (3) fostering understanding of the interconnected nature of academic scholarship and community engagement, and (4) equipping students for professional opportunities across both corporate and public sectors.

Qualification Requirements

An international student whose post-secondary education is completed outside of the U.S. is expected to hold a degree representing completion of at least four years of study with above average scholarship from a university or university-level institution.

IELTS Academic overall band score should be at least 7.0 is the minimum required.

TOEFL score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internet-based test.
