The program includes 30 units in total. Students may take no more than six units combined in Directed Reading or Special Study courses. To remain in good standing during the first year, students must earn at least a B grade in all courses counting toward the degree; failure to do so may result in dismissal. Credit/No Credit units cannot be applied toward degree requirements. All graduate students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout their studies.

Develop interdisciplinary knowledge about Asian American histories, cultures, and racialization processes.
Utilize course concepts, critical theories, and methodologies to analyze structural and ideological influences on Asian American experiences.
Apply acquired skills and knowledge to support the self-empowerment of Asian American communities.
Cultivate principles of social justice, equity, activism, and appreciation for diversity.
Create well-supported oral and written arguments using proper citations, drawing from both academic and community-based knowledge to effectively communicate research findings.
