Students passionate about exploring bioethics through a theological lens may find Saint Louis University's joint Ph.D. in Theology and Health Care Ethics particularly appealing. This unique program, a collaboration between the Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics and the Department of Theological Studies, awards a single doctoral degree rather than separate credentials. The curriculum comprises 60 credit hours: 27 in health care ethics, 21 in theology, and 12 dedicated to dissertation research. Full-time students typically finish pre-exam coursework within three years by taking nine credits each semester. Additional requirements include demonstrating reading proficiency in French, German, or an approved alternative language, completing three research competencies (Library Database Skills, Medical Terminology, and Statistics/Study Design), and passing comprehensive written and oral examinations.
