The Ethics and Society (ES) curriculum trains students in ethical traditions (theological, philosophical, and social) while emphasizing contextual analysis through critical social perspectives. As part of Emory University's Laney Graduate School under the Graduate Division of Religion (GDR), Ethics and Society offers a customizable framework for developing the specific competencies required for each scholar's aspirations. The ES program fosters uniquely collaborative and cross-disciplinary scholarship: faculty mentor students, theologians engage with social scientists, legal scholars partner with ethicists, Islamic studies researchers converse with Buddhist scholars, and anthropologists collaborate with historians. This multifaceted examination of religious studies equips ES participants to critically assess religious and ethical systems, cultural manifestations, and lived practices.
