The Nutritional Sciences PhD program prioritizes both research and its practical implementation, spanning from fundamental molecular and cellular studies to clinical and community-based applications. Applicants are accepted with either an undergraduate nutrition degree or a graduate degree in nutrition or a related field. Alumni pursue careers in academia, corporate sectors, medical fields, and public policy initiatives.
Research forms the cornerstone of this program, with students acquiring in-depth expertise in their selected specialties. A foundational curriculum includes courses on macronutrients and micronutrients in human nutrition, research methodologies, experimental statistics, current nutrition trends, and proposal development.
Following core requirements, students collaborate with academic mentors to create personalized study paths aligned with their professional objectives. Specialization options include bioinformatics, community/public health nutrition, molecular biology, statistical analysis, and additional concentrations. Every candidate engages in research projects and fulfills 15-40 dissertation credit hours.
