The DEP program combines 1,200 hours of supervised practical training with academic coursework during the professional phase. The final two undergraduate years comprise an intensive full-time curriculum focused on community nutrition. Admission to the DEP is competitive, with limited spots available. Prospective transfer students should reach out to the department well in advance for guidance on transitioning to NDSU and joining the DEP. Applications are due by January 1 of the second year, requiring at least a 3.0 overall GPA and 2.75 in science courses. Upon completing the four-year program, graduates will be qualified to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration examination. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' ACEND accredits this program. Note that this option is being discontinued in response to new 2024 entry-level standards. Students must submit their professional program applications by spring 2021 to participate.
