The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry comprises around 50 dedicated faculty members focused on research, education, and extension programs for domestic livestock. The department advises nearly 1,000 undergraduate students and supports about 60 graduate candidates working toward M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Animal Science.
For graduate studies, the department maintains conveniently located animal research and teaching facilities near campus. These include specialized units for beef (both pasture and feedlot systems), dairy, swine, sheep, poultry, and equine studies. Call Hall and Weber Hall additionally house modern laboratories capable of performing most essential research analyses.
Graduate programs in the department are structured around six specialized areas: animal genetics and breeding, meat science, non-ruminant nutrition, animal physiology, ruminant nutrition, and food science. The food science program operates as a significant interdisciplinary degree option, with further details available in the catalog's dedicated section.
