The Division of Animal Sciences offers a comprehensive teaching curriculum, with faculty recognized for their instructional expertise and student guidance. Our graduate program has consistently grown or sustained its enrollment, funding, and job placement success over the last five years. The Division works to cultivate a diverse faculty capable of delivering specialized courses across five key disciplines (reproductive and environmental physiology, ruminant and monogastric nutrition, genetics/genomics, meat science, and livestock production) covering six animal species (swine, dairy cattle, beef cattle, poultry, companion animals, and horses) to meet the nationwide need for graduates in research, education, and industry roles.
Students collaborate with their advisory committee to design a customized study plan. Any modifications to this plan require formal documentation. Maintaining strong academic performance is mandatory—all graduate coursework must achieve a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Falling below this threshold results in academic probation, during which fee waivers are not permitted. Students must restore their GPA to 3.0 by the subsequent semester's end or face potential dismissal. This GPA requirement applies to all coursework except problems courses, research credits, and departmental seminars.
