The department mandates an additional member on the Special Committee for both M.S. and Ph.D. candidates (three for M.S., four for Ph.D.) beyond the Graduate School's requirement. At minimum, one committee member must be from a different department than the chairperson. M.S. and Ph.D. students must participate in the department's teaching program. This initiative provides post-baccalaureate training in primary and secondary disciplines, along with research mentorship from faculty. While the M.S. serves as a final qualification for careers in industry, agribusiness, extension, education, or research, most students use it as preparation for the Ph.D. program. The Ph.D. curriculum focuses on cultivating independent research skills, producing capable scientists with deep expertise in their field, broad knowledge of related areas, and proven ability to design, execute, complete, and analyze research projects.
Preference is given to applicants whose credentials indicate strong undergraduate preparation both in the animal sciences and in related biological and physical sciences.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
