The Department of Animal Science provides advanced degree programs focused on animal genetics and breeding, nutrition for both ruminant and non-ruminant species, physiology, and meat/poultry science. Students have access to modern analytical labs and animal research facilities that support comprehensive graduate studies. State-of-the-art resources enable fundamental and practical investigations involving large animals, poultry, and lab animals. The department operates a federally approved meat processing lab dedicated to poultry and meat science research. Additionally, research facilities located 40 minutes from Lincoln support studies across beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and swine disciplines. Graduate research extends to four university-affiliated research centers and the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
