Graduate programs equip students with fundamental knowledge about insect biology and their interactions with human societies and ecosystems. The diverse impacts of insects, spanning from advantageous to harmful, creates numerous research avenues where insects are central. Potential thesis subjects could focus on forest-dwelling insects, urban tree pests, medically significant species, beneficial predators and parasites, or insects as vital food sources for wildlife. Active research initiatives explore forest pest population trends, chemical signaling in beetles and moths, evolutionary aspects of insect communication, forestry impacts on aquatic insects, biological pest control in woodlands, and biochemical processes in insect defense systems. The Professional Experience track mandates completion of 30 graduate credits, with a minimum of 24 credits earned through on-campus study at ESF.
