The Master of Plant Protection and Pest Management (MPPPM) is a professional graduate program offered jointly by the Entomology, Crop and Soil Sciences, and Plant Pathology departments, focusing on practical applications rather than thesis research.

Unlike research-based degrees, the MPPPM emphasizes hands-on learning through an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) internship, replacing traditional thesis requirements with real-world experience.

Qualification Requirements

A background in entomology is not required for students to enter the graduate program. In fact, we encourage applicants with a B.S. or M.S. in any area of the physical and biological sciences to apply. Students with a B.S. degree are normally admitted at the M.S. level but may petition to bypass this degree and work towards the Ph.D. after meeting specific departmental requirements. Students without previous courses in genetics and biochemistry will be required to make up these deficiencies after entering the program. Courses in animal physiology or cell and molecular biology can be substitutes.

To be admitted to the MPPPM program:

applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution,
a minimum combined GRE score of 289 in the new grading scale,
a 3.0 grade point average (out of 4.0), and
three letters of reference.
