Our Department provides graduate studies culminating in M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Botany and Zoology, featuring research concentrations such as ecology, evolution, behavior, developmental biology, comparative and environmental physiology, molecular biology, neurobiology, genetics, and phylogenetics. Our research spans from genomic-scale investigations to ecosystem-level analyses, conducted across diverse terrestrial and aquatic habitats worldwide—from tropical to subpolar regions—and involving various organisms. The program incorporates both laboratory experiments and field studies, alongside theoretical research in our specialized fields.
Faculty and students prioritize fundamental and interdisciplinary research, bridging organizational scales from molecular to global systems, combining theoretical models with empirical data through statistical and mathematical approaches, and using natural history to shape robust conceptual frameworks. Numerous faculty members also explore practical applications of foundational science in areas like conservation biology, ecotoxicology, and human health. Visit the Biology department's main webpage for program details and faculty research profiles. Additionally, review the graduate course listings available within these degree programs.
