The Technology and Humanities Ph.D. program equips students for academic careers in university teaching and research, along with high-level research and development roles in government and private organizations. You'll build expertise in digital research methodologies to thoroughly examine complex issues at the intersection of human-technology interactions. The program also encourages examining technological concepts through various humanities perspectives, including philosophy, media studies, history, linguistics, and communication theory.

Beyond theoretical foundations, the curriculum emphasizes practical application through hands-on experience in digital creation and design. Students engage in research-driven projects involving web development, game design, and other digital production areas.

Qualification Requirements

Students enter the Ph.D. program from a wide range of fields but should have substantial academic preparation or professional experience related to one or more humanities fields. Applicants must have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in a field that, in combination with the 30 credit hour technical core, would provide a solid basis for advanced academic work leading to original research in technology and humanities.
