Doctoral candidates specializing in American Politics can collaborate with renowned experts in various fields including electoral processes, civic engagement, public opinion, media influence, political psychology, and governmental structures. Current research focuses on multiple areas: how information exposure shapes political understanding and perspectives, the impact of issue framing on policy decisions, consequences of negative campaigning on voter perceptions and participation, the interplay between political awareness and emotional responses in evaluating government actions, the political views of Latinos with dual citizenship, social networks' role in mobilization and conflict, and the broader relationship between political contexts and individual traits in forming opinions. Additionally, our program excels in comparative state politics research, especially regarding legislative bodies and policy-making at the state level. The department offers substantial resources for conducting experimental research during election cycles and encourages graduate students to participate in these projects.
