The Russian and East European Studies program offers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS) degree. This curriculum provides students with comprehensive knowledge of the languages, cultures, histories, and current political and economic landscapes of Russia and Eastern Europe. The program takes a wide-ranging, cross-disciplinary approach that compares multiple nations. Students can take courses across various fields including political science, economics, public administration, geography, history, languages, literature, religion, philosophy, urban planning, and art history. Many graduates pursue careers in government, business, international agencies, media, or education. For others, the program serves as preparation for doctoral studies, helping them build language skills, regional expertise, and graduate-level experience before entering PhD programs in disciplines related to Russian and East European Studies.

Qualification Requirements

Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. Institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution.
A minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0) in all work attempted while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student (the semester you earn 60 credit hours).
GRE scores with a percentile ranking of 50 or higher on the verbal, quantitative, and writing sections. This equates to about 150 in both the verbal and quantitative portions, and a 4 in the writing section
Statement of Purpose explaining career and educational goals (Minimum 1 page)
Resume/CV
Official and verified GRE Scores (Florida State University's test code is 5219)
We will accept LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, or MAT in place of GRE
Two letters of recommendation: letter should provide explanation on the applicant's qualifications for the program and ability to be successful in a master level program
Applicants should have 1 academic and 1 professional letter of recommendation
International applicants whose native language is not English will need to submit an English proficiency exam such as the TOEFL or IELTS directly to Admissions
