The Master of Arts in Russian Studies with an International Relations specialization is a 34-credit program, including 14 credits dedicated to IR studies. Candidates complete a co-supervised thesis (with one advisor from International Relations and another from the Russian & Slavic Studies Department). Those pursuing this IR-focused Russian Studies MA meet identical core requirements as other Russian Studies MA students. Through diverse coursework covering Russian and Czech literature, language, history, cinema, and culture, the department provides comprehensive insight into Slavic regions. From introductory lectures on translated Russian masterpieces to examinations of contemporary Eastern European history and politics, or intensive seminars analyzing original texts, faculty passionately share the dynamic nature of these cultures that remain pivotal to modern Europe's evolution.
The program actively supports internship opportunities with Russia-linked nonprofits and corporations. New York City, home to America's largest Russian population, provides rich cultural experiences, Russian-language media outlets, and specialty bookshops. The New York Public Library serves as an exceptional resource for Russian and Slavic research materials.
