The Bachelor of Arts in Africology and African American Studies provides students with a comprehensive examination of the African diaspora, with special emphasis on the histories and cultures of African-descended populations in the Americas. This program fulfills its educational goals by preparing generations of students who possess both community awareness and the analytical skills needed to influence contemporary and future societies, participate in civic initiatives, and pursue relevant professions. The diverse racial and ethnic landscape of the United States and global community reflects the transformative impact of historical developments across fields such as science, technology, cultural production, business, ecology, governance, creative arts, legal systems, and pedagogy. These elements, combined with core themes of human existence—conceptual frameworks, authority, social organization, and sustainable practices—form the foundation of AAAS's interdisciplinary coursework. Learners gain practical experience through community-focused internships, which may be completed either locally or through international study programs. Additionally, students build professional connections via the Africology Society, an academic organization comprising AAAS majors, minors, and certificate candidates.
