The Mexican American Studies program fosters transformative learning environments where students leverage their knowledge to conduct meaningful applied research that drives positive societal transformation in their communities. The MAS curriculum explores the structural and historical foundations of Mexican-origin populations in the U.S., examining their lived experiences, heritage, and cultural contributions. UTSA's distinctive courses aim to cultivate informed civic leaders equipped to enhance the wellbeing of Mexican-American and Chicana/o/x populations throughout San Antonio, Texas, and beyond.
The College of Education and Human Development continues its mission to equip students as catalysts for societal progress across academic, legal, and nonprofit sectors. Our Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender & Sexuality Studies (REGSS) maintains its dedication to guiding students through university systems while advancing equity and justice. These disciplines foster scholarly development through diasporic, decolonial, and intersectional frameworks in race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality education.
The Department provides Bachelor of Arts degrees in African American Studies, Mexican American Studies, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, along with corresponding minors. The Mexican American Studies B.A. equips graduates for advanced academic pursuits or professional paths in education, research, community organizing, or advocacy. Additionally, the Department offers courses that satisfy Core Curriculum requirements, serve as complementary studies for other university programs, or stand as elective options.
