Ethnic Studies is a multidisciplinary field exploring the languages, cultures, histories, and current affairs of African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicana/os-Latina/os, and Native Americans. This academic discipline guides students in critically assessing these communities' global and national cultural impacts. The program pushes students to reevaluate prevailing assumptions and frameworks concerning racial and ethnic identities, fostering the creation of more accurate understandings of diverse populations and their lived experiences. Participants are motivated to combat discriminatory practices through active engagement.
The curriculum promotes combining Ethnic Studies with specialized fields. One might pursue an Ethnic Studies major alongside a Business Administration minor, for instance. Likewise, Engineering Technology graduates can complement their degree with an Ethnic Studies minor, equipping them for leadership roles in our diverse society. Graduates with Ethnic Studies credentials pursue opportunities across government agencies and corporate environments.
