The Master of Arts in English program focuses on research and applying diverse critical methods to literary and compositional challenges. Graduate students engage with practical criticism, literary theory, elective literature and linguistics courses, and can explore composition theory along with teaching writing fundamentals. The degree offers flexible enrollment options, allowing students to study part-time or full-time, with evening and online classes tailored for working professionals. Core courses should ideally be completed within the initial two semesters. Oversight of the program falls to the Graduate Studies Committee, led by the Director of Graduate Studies, which handles admissions, graduate assistant appointments, Andrews Award selections, student petitions, and curriculum policies.
